Mortgage brokers unlock refinancing for more borrowers

Posted 03/02/2026 by Leifield

Refinancing is back on the table for more borrowers, as serviceability pressures ease and confidence begins to lift.
The Mortgage & Finance Association of Australia’s latest broker sentiment survey found 99% of brokers helped clients refinance to a new lender in the past six months, up from 97% in February.
Nearly all also helped their clients negotiate a better rate. And more borrowers are turning to brokers for the first time, with 92% of brokers reporting new clients refinancing through them.
Broker support goes beyond switching loans. In the same period, 90% helped clients with budgeting strategies and 80% guided them through hardship options.
Financial sentiment is on the rise too. One in three clients now feel positive about their financial outlook, while almost half feel neutral.
