Rents across Australia rose by 9.3% in the year to May, according to the latest data from CoreLogic.
As the chart shows, the growth was consistent across the country, with rents increasing in every capital city and regional area.
Not coincidentally, the national vacancy rate (the share of untenanted rental properties) was an incredibly low 1.0% in May, according to Domain.
That means tenants are having to compete hard to find accommodation. Property investors are responding to these strong demand signals by raising rents.
