
The average Australian was worth a record $540,179 at the end of the September quarter, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.When the pandemic started, in the March 2020 quarter, wealth per capita was $428,179.So during the first 18 months of the pandemic, the wealth of the average Australian jumped $112,000 or 26.2% – mostly due to an increase in property prices.Taking a longer-term view, wealth per capita has increased:
- 92% in the past decade
- 251% in the past two decades
- 526% in the past three decades
